Why I Wouldn’t Buy Creams and Gels

Posted in Acne Advice on July 28th, 2008 by admin / No Comments »

If I were you, I would not buy creams and gels and soaps and all of those other things for some quick fix acne cure. Reasons why? Those creams and products are basically chemicals. I mean they might not be harmful, but face the truth! Chemicals are chemicals. Most are not natural and they do not belong on your face. I would rather see them on a lab table being tinkered with, but not on anyone’s face.

There is also that risk of a reaction. It could either be a combination of products, or just a natural reaction. You know, when they say the chemicals are not harmful, they mean 99% of the time it is not harmful. There is always that other 1% and that 1% could just be you. Also, if you use more than one product at any time there could be some drastic effects. I am talking hypothetical, though.

In general, I have always stayed away from products that run my tab because they burn through my money very fast and do not provide adequate results for what I paid for. I would rather just…keep my money, wash my face everyday, and live life like I am supposed to.

My Personal Experience with Acne

Acne has been one of the most devastating things to happen to my face, my body, and most importantly (among other things, hehe) my social life. At one point in time, I carried around acne to the point where it’s simply a mass of bumps that is difficult to get rid of. I tried everything from washing my face to using certain creams to rubbing food on the acne bit. At the time, I did not properly understand that acne was a natural thing and that the amount of acne varies for each person. Do not make the same mistake that I made!

In the end, I just learned to deal with it. Like seriously, it is just acne and nobody can say anything about it because they had acne at some point in their life. The social part was not as bad as I mentioned earlier. I mean people did not show that “Oh, why, he is terrible looking!” kind of reaction. I was still a person deep down…deep deep down below all that atrocious material I called acne. I guess my main point here is: Don’t be afraid of acne. It is just a natural ‘problem’ that is easy to cope with and poses no serious problem to anything at all.

Acne Causes Some Social Problems

Having acne sucks. I am dead serious. You probably know what I’m talking about. When people take a look at you from 500 feet, they might go, “Oh that person looks ok”. From two feet, though, the response is more like, “Whoa what is that on their face?”. It is close to an absolute guarantee that anyone who suffers some degree of acne (most of the human population) has been in that situation. Having acne makes people feel bad about themselves because they think that others will consider them as ‘dirty’ or ‘unclean’, which are obviously misconceptions.

The thing is that people must understand that acne is natural. People suffer acne to different levels and just because that level is more serious than expected, the person really doesn’t change. It is a social thing, I know, but acne causes those problems. Acne is like a costume these days. There is no way to tell who is under the mask of bumps and red spots, but why should that matter? Anyone with acne should be proud of the way they are no matter what because having acne means you are growing up like humans are supposed to do so.

What Acne Really Is

If I were to put it in simple terms, acne is a general word that describes all the bumps you get when your pores get clogged. Pores usually get clogged if you touch your face too much, your face produces too much oil or dead cells that you can not get rid of quickly, and if the hormones in your body are acting up. Bacteria plays a significant role in the development of acne. If you are a girl, a hormone called estrogen actually will help your acne situation.

The term noninflammatory acne refers to blackheads and whiteheads. The oil and problems remain outside of the pore. Closed comedos (whiteheads) are formed when the hair follicle does not break like in the situations of blackheads. Closed comedos appear as tiny little pink bumps. Remember that these are like plugs that simple insert themselves into the pore. The oil is not stuck inside the pore itself. The term inflammatory acne refers to red blemishes and zits. These are basically noninflammatory acne (blackheads and whiteheads) that have inflamed and are now red in appearance. Some lesions are swollen and are inflamed to a more serious degree. Leaving these lesions unchecked can produce scarring.

Getting Rid of Acne Scars

Before we start with teaching you how to easily remove acne, you first must learn the outcomes of improperly treated acne. Acne scars appear in the form of “pit” or “crater” looking scars. A few don’t affect much, but if you have a serious acne problem, and you remove the entire problem, those scars could really take a toll on your face and your self-esteem.

Smaller scars can be dealt with by ‘dermabrasion’, or a removal of the top layers of skin using a machine that slowly grinds it away. This is a quick fix that can work for minor scars only, not big patches, remember that. To easily remove acne scars, it sometimes require some heavier work.

Chemical peels remove the outermost layer of skin, which fixes weird pigmentation of the skin as well as sun-burned parts and minimal scars. This involves a simple application of chemicals.

Laser removal of acne scars burns away the damaged skin. This is all good and great, but so far only a few have successfully completed operations that easily remove acne scars. The laser will also reduce redness in the area of the scar. The treatment is virtually harmless and produces very very few side effects.

“Autologous fat transfer” takes fat from other parts of your body and face and implants it below the skin in order to correct the contour of the skin. Skin acts like a sponge to fat, however, so this fat transfer might have to be repeated multiple times. Think of this as “liposuction and fatidical for the face”.

People always easily remove acne scars, so it’s really no big deal. Even with this said, please note that you might have an allergic reaction with any of these treatments. It’s not a guaranteed shot.

Almost all of teenagers between the ages of twelve and seventeen have had acne of some sort before. Many of these individuals choose to use non-prescription treatments to easily remove acne. However, 40% of teenagers will have to see a physician to try to get the acne removed. Acne is a general term that describes any sort of plugged pore in the skin.
